MGSM Women In MBA Partnership

Macquarie Graduate School of Management has taken a big step towards equalising the balance within their own MBA qualification. Already known as one of the leading Business Schools globally, the impact of this offer is likely to further boost their own international recognition and growth.

The new program, Women in MBA (WiMBA) corporate partnership program encourages this diversity in leadership, through corporate and government organisations. The WiMBA program aims to identify leading and up-coming talent and foster their growth through an MBA.

The investment they have put towards this cause so far has been over $4 million. This is the largest investment an Australian Business School has made in the postgraduate education of women.

Key Parts of the WiMBA

MGSM is matching dollar for dollar the contribution each corporate partner is investing in their talent.

Ensuring practical support is given for those who are part of the WiMBA. This includes the ability to spend attend classes, complete assignments or extra time for group study.

Partners chosen have the scale required to make this a success, both in investment and quantity of applicants.

In-house mentors/sponsors are provided by the employer to provide support, advice and guidance. This would also include post-MBA career path advice.

Partners

Key partners of the Women in MBA partnership include CPA, Johnson & Johnson, Philips, the Royal Australian Navy, Qantas and The Star.

With over 75 years in the education game, the Australian Institute of Management has revamped their AIM MBA+ program for the modern day leader.

The New AIM MBA+

More than just a name change, the MBA+ from AIM is redesigned for managers and leaders. The Australian Institute of Management has already made a name for itself as a leader in developing new leaders through a range of short courses, diplomas and corporate training. Now, AIM has further cemented themselves in the Postgraduate sphere, with increased flexibility, a 5-year AIM Gold Card and a reduction in tuition fees.

Contextualised Study

Focus your MBA in Human Resource Management, Change Management, Consultancy or Entrepreneurship.

Study Modes

Designed for the working professionals, AIM offers a number of study modes including on-campus, weekday evenings, online or a blend.

AIM MBA+ Gold Card?

All new MBA students gain 5-year access to a number of additional benefits.

AIM Coaches: Gain access to consultations with your advisers, offering personalised services to make the most of your study.

Short Courses: AIM offers a number of online and on-campus short courses to ensure you maintain your personal growth.

Lounge Access: Access to AIM lounges located across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra Business Districts.

5 Key Features Of AIMs MBA+

Entry based on a degree and/or your management experience. This enables those with significant management experience alternate entry into the MBA.

Assessments are practical, rather than exam based.

AIM recognises prior learning, both academic and business experience.

Monthly intakes enable more flexibility than many of the other Business Schools in Australia.

Tuition has reduced by almost $10,0000, down to $32,400 in 2018.

If you needed any more reasons to consider AIM for your Master of Business Administration, you have them.

What are the global trends, and are Business Schools in Australia offering what people want?

Global MBA Trends

The numbers are in. More people prefer one year, full-time MBAs over the two-year equivalent, according to CarringtonCrisp. For the first time since the survey started, nearly 1500 students across 75 countries have shown a stronger desire to enrol in the shorter MBA program.

“Rapidly changing demands for skills from employers and a desire for quicker, cheaper study to get a better return on investment makes sense for a prospective student”, details Andrew Crisp of CarringtonCrisp.

What about Australian MBAs?

While Australians may be trendsetters, Business Schools seem to be lagging behind this global trend.

Of the programs listed on MBA Reviews, only 9% of MBA degrees have a duration of one year (12 months) as a full-time student. 31% of MBA degrees are listed to be two years (24 months), while the majority, at 38%, are listed as one and a half year degrees (18 months).

Do you think the quicker gratification of a one-year degree is more worthwhile than a more tradition two-year program? Let us know in the comments.

11 Australian Universities have had their MBA programs featured on the 2018 MBA Rankings Report by QS Top MBA.

This ranking was determined based on 172,000 responses to their QS Global Academic Survey and 158,000 responses to their Employer Survey. 13 criteria are reviewed across 5 key areas:

Employability (40%) – Asks employers from which schools they prefer to hire. The score also includes employment rate, 3 months post graduation.

Return on Investment (20%) – While QS admits this is one of the hardest metrics to measure, they look into the 10-year change in graduate salaries against the average salary changes.

Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes (15%) – Reviewed schools of 49,000 CEOs, executives and board members at companies including the Forbes 2000, FT Global 500 etc.

Thought Leadership (15%) – Includes citations per paper, the percentage of faculty with doctoral degree etc.

Class & Faculty Diversity (10%) – ratio of female/male students and faculty, international faculty and international mix of students.

Saïd Business School

Saïd Business School has just opened up a program called the Oxford HIVE (Hub for International Virtual Education). This virtual classroom is the first of its type in UK and second in the world.

The Oxford HIVE, allows lecturers to engage with up to 84 students, through fully interactive technology. This enables lecturers to address students individually, create groups and conduct real-time polls. It also enables students to see and hear each other. If you have ever been in a lecture and started to nod off, you will now need to control your facial expressions. Oxford HIVE has the power to judge and score facial expressions of individuals, rating their attentiveness.

“The Oxford HIVE will allow us to teach, learn and share ideas as a global community, and we see it as a crucial tool to unite our global community in support of our mission to tackle world scale challenges.” – Peter Tufano, Saïd Business School

IE Business School

IE Business School has also committed to technology immersion.

Their WOW Room, is a lecture hall on their Madrid campus with 48 screens, powered by AI, real-time simulations, big data, interactive robots, emotion recognition systems, and the presence of holograms.

Professors are either physically present in the WOW Room, or are projected in hologram form and moved around the room by a robot to interact with students.

How Will Australia Compete?

Studying your MBA Online or Offshore has never been more exciting. This ability to fully integrate off-shore and online students with those on-campus is something that will hopefully be arriving on-shore in the next few years for MBA students. What else Australian MBA providers are planning, we will need to wait and see.

Studying your MBA on-campus may not be the most practical study type for all students. For those in Central Coast, a recent plan signed off confirms that the University of Newcastle will be offering their MBA program in a new campus to be located in Gosford. They already have an Ourimbah campus, however, this new campus was to be closer to a major train station to cater for commuters and ease of access.

This change comes after a survey sought to determine how many people were interested in postgraduate education in Central Coast, which courses they would be interested in and course delivery.

“From that feedback we determined there is a demand for postgraduate study on the Coast, particularly MBA, and that people were particularly keen for that to be running out of Gosford,” Dr Bankins said.

Until this stage, the University only offered their MBA online, in Sydney or in Newcastle. The expected MBA intake is mid-2018.

With the recent overhaul of VET FEE-HELP, there was never a doubt that Higher Education reforms were on the way. The Australian Government Department of Education & Training has announced a range of changes aimed to improve the education sector.

Why Change?

There are a number of reasons for these upcoming reforms. The need to improve the sustainability of Higher Education, provide more choice for students and increase the transparency and accountability of the scheme.

Whats Changing?

Increased Student Share Of Funding

Maximum student contributions will be increasing from January 1, 2018. Fees will increase 1.8% each year with a total of 7.5% increase by 2021. Students will need to pay for a larger portion of their fees without government funding. Funding changes sponsored by taxpayers is being adjusted.

Minimum Payment Thresholds

Students currently with an annual income over $55,874 are required to repay 2% of their loans. As of July 2018, the minimum annual income changes to $42,000 with a 1% repayment rate.

Permanent Residents & NZ Citizen Changes

Subsidies for NZ Citizens and Permanent Australian Citizens enrolling in a Commonwealth Support Place will be withdrawn. This means these students become fee-paying. Access will be provided to income-contingent loans, meaning they will no longer need to meet upfront fees.

Increase Support For Regional Students

The Government will be committing $15,000,000 over the next 4 years to assist up to eight, community-owned, regional study hubs across Australia.

University Government Funding

January 2018 is going to see the introduction of performance-based elements into their Commonwealth Grant Scheme, known as the Quality Indicators of Learning and Teaching. This performance element is going to make up 7.5% of the total funding universities will be provided.
