MGSM Women In MBA Partnership

Macquarie Graduate School of Management has taken a big step towards equalising the balance within their own MBA qualification. Already known as one of the leading Business Schools globally, the impact of this offer is likely to further boost their own international recognition and growth.

The new program, Women in MBA (WiMBA) corporate partnership program encourages this diversity in leadership, through corporate and government organisations. The WiMBA program aims to identify leading and up-coming talent and foster their growth through an MBA.

The investment they have put towards this cause so far has been over $4 million. This is the largest investment an Australian Business School has made in the postgraduate education of women.

Key Parts of the WiMBA

1. MGSM is matching dollar for dollar the contribution each corporate partner is investing in their talent.
2. Ensuring practical support is given for those who are part of the WiMBA. This includes the ability to spend attend classes, complete assignments or extra time for group study.
3. Partners chosen have the scale required to make this a success, both in investment and quantity of applicants.
4. In-house mentors/sponsors are provided by the employer to provide support, advice and guidance. This would also include post-MBA career path advice.

Key partners of the Women in MBA partnership include CPA, Johnson & Johnson, Philips, the Royal Australian Navy, Qantas and The Star.

Melbourne Business School ranked at 66th and UNSW’s Australian Graduate School of Management ranked slightly higher at 63rd.

MGSM were not eligible for a ranking due to the requirement of at least 20 percent of eligible alumni must reply to a survey, of that, slightly under 60 percent to of the the total score is collated from alumni responses.

What Does AACSB Stand For?

Europe has EQUIS. Australia has TEQSA. In the United States, there is AACSB. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is a US Association aiming to connect prospective students to Business Schools. They are the standard for top-tier education and have a presence in 90+ countries.

This ranking was determined based on 172,000 responses to their QS Global Academic Survey and 158,000 responses to their Employer Survey. 13 criteria are reviewed across 5 key areas:

• Employability (40%) – Asks employers from which schools they prefer to hire. The score also includes employment rate, 3 months post graduation.
• Return on Investment (20%) – While QS admits this is one of the hardest metrics to measure, they look into the 10-year change in graduate salaries against the average salary changes.
• Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes (15%) – Reviewed schools of 49,000 CEOs, executives and board members at companies including the Forbes 2000, FT Global 500 etc.
• Thought Leadership (15%) – Includes citations per paper, the percentage of faculty with doctoral degree etc.
• Class & Faculty Diversity (10%) – ratio of female/male students and faculty, international faculty and international mix of students.
